Head of Major Donor Fundraising

Orbis is an international NGO that transforms lives by working to eliminate avoidable blindness in the developing world. There are 285 million people in the world who are blind or visually impaired, yet 80% of eye conditions can be prevented or treated.

Our vision is of a world where no-one is denied the chance of an education, a job or their future by becoming needlessly blind or visually impaired.

Orbis UK is currently recruiting for a Head of Major Donor Fundraising to motivate and inspire Orbis’s dedicated and loyal high value donors to support Orbis’s work over the next few years.

You will do this by developing excellent relationships with our major donors, trustees and Ambassadors. You will create compelling cases for support and deliver excellent fundraising events, and also take donors to see our programmes first hand, such as our unique Flying Eye Hospital, to show them how their high value gifts are transforming people’s lives.

Orbis UK have significantly grown our income over the past few years (from £2.9M in 2010 to £7.6M in 2016) on the back of award winning integrated fundraising and communications campaigns and fantastic donor relationship management and stewardship. The Major Donor team have been an integral part of this success, having overseen a doubling of income from this area to reach £1m in 2015 for the first time.

This is an exciting time to be joining Orbis as we have just launched our most ambitious fundraising and awareness campaign, Operation Sight, with the aim of raising £18M by the end of 2018 to fund a million eye care treatments. The Head of Major Donors will play a vital role in our ability to reach these ambitious targets.

You will be a fantastic and passionate communicator who has experience of building fantastic relationships with high net worth individuals. You will be an excellent team player, working as part of a tightly knit fundraising team, and will work in tandem with our Corporate Partnerships and Institutional Relationships teams to ensure we offer excellent stewardship to all Orbis’s key donors.

Salary: £47,000 - £49,000 p/a

Programme Officer

Orbis UK is seeking to appoint a London-based Programme Officer on a permanent contract.
 

Overall Purpose of the Job

The Programme Officer is a member of the Programme Support Team (PST), whose role is to ensure compliance and management of major statutory grants, as well as being the programme resource for colleagues and trustees. He/she will coordinate the preparation for one of the Board sub-committees, maintain programme management information tools, act as a focal point for programme information and provide ad hoc programme support to colleagues.

   
Salary: £28,000

Orbis Trustee

Orbis Charitable Trust (Orbis) is the UK operation of an international sight-saving charity. Through innovative programmes and partnerships, Orbis creates long-term, lasting solutions to prevent and treat blindness worldwide. By training medical staff, strengthening in-country eye care services, expanding quality eye care provision and preventing eye conditions, Orbis is able to make a significant contribution to the elimination of preventable blindness.

Orbis is seeking to appoint committed Trustees with relevant experience to participate on both the Board and one of the two sub-committees; the Programme Committee or the Audit Committee.

What the role involves:

  • Ensuring that Orbis is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit
  • Ensuring that Orbis is complying with its governing document and the law
  • Preparing for and attending Board meetings
  • Preparing for and attending sub-committee meetings
  • Supporting the staff of Orbis
  • Attending occasional evening events

 

Salary:   Voluntary

Location:  Central London
