Orbis take home award for Most Powerful Insight through Research
The Institute of Fundraising Awards took place on 7th June 2017 at London’s Café de Paris and Orbis were delighted to walk away with an award for Most Powerful Insight through Research for our Operation Sight campaign!
Launched during the Flying Eye Hospital visit to Stansted, Operation Sight is Orbis’s most ambitious campaign to date. Over the next two years, with your support, we aim to provide 100,000 training sessions for eye care teams and support more than 30 hospitals across Africa and Asia – resulting in more than one million medical, optical and surgical treatments being delivered to children and adults in need.
The campaign was born of a desire to raise greater awareness of our work and grow our community of supporters so that we can achieve our vision of a world where no-one is needlessly blind.
In order to understand what motivates people to support Orbis, we worked with an agency called Audience. Research and interviews were undertaken with existing and potential supporters, to understand more about which aspects of our work people find most engaging.
The judges said, “This is a great example of a smaller charity being bold and punching above its weight for big impact. The research tackled a big question through traditional but robust work with the kind of results that stand out for a board to notice and buy in to. The judges were particularly impressed that an unexpected answer was acted upon rather than simply dismissed – a perfect case study of how research can charge an organisation’s direction with striking results.”
To top it off, we’re pleased to add that we have also been nominated for a research award in the upcoming National Fundraising Awards – watch this space for more news!
